A Wired Box

I have found out how amazing one can get used to having something.

Like an office without a fax, or a copy machine or me without a computer.

New Year hasn't come yet and I just want my computer back, sadly I speak to my friends through a "box of wires" aka computer, and without it, I'm not communicating with them or anyone else, and it feels so weird, so lost, so lonely.

You might ask "what about the one you are using?" Well, this one is SO incredibly slow that when I am typing this each letter shows up every two seconds, no kidding, I have no patience and you need the patience of a saint to use this computer, so I use it just to check mail and a few other things and then turn it off and do some knitting... yeah, frustrating and sad to me, but anyway, I just hope Jan 2nd. comes fast so they can start working on my computer and I can get it back soon enough.

Perfect Timing

Well not even three months ago I bought a new computer:

CORE 2 Duo E4400 Mother Board Intel D946GZ S/V/R Video Card GForce Nvidia 8500 GT 2GB Memory DDR2 Kingston 667 HD Seagate Sata 160 GB with Windows Vista.

Yesterday it went clank clank clank, system not responding and now all I can see it's a black screen... Merry Xmas to me *sighs*

Oh the Guarantee is still on! But the computer people won't work until Jan 2nd. *deep sigh* oh well..

Santa Baby!!

Santa Baby what will you bring me this Christmas?

Santa Baby I want a plane where I can travel around the world and meet wonderful places and wonderful people that I only know through pictures and letters.

Santa baby I want a Mercedes Benz convertible, I'll let you choose the color, red or blue or maybe pink!

Santa baby I want a big new yatch so I can make cool parties with all my friends and family

Santa baby I'll leave my stocking hung by my door so everytime I reach inside there is money galore.

Santa baby I want a big ranch with horses that I can ride

Santa baby I want an unlimited credit card that pays itself

Santa baby I want peace on earth, I want them to stop fighting silly wars and instead of fighting teach them how to TALK and COMPROMISE.

Santa baby, I want to be awsome in computer games, specially Guild Wars, just like my friends.

Santa baby, I want for my friends to have a VERY Merry Christmas, bring them what you want and make them have lots of happiness and health.

Santa baby, make them remember when they are opening their presents, that there is a present from me, a HUGE FRIENDLY BEAR HUG! And when I'll toast on Xmas Eve, I'll toast for them wishing them nothing but good things and thanking them for making me feel so honored and happy to have them as my friends.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The laugh of a kid

I'm sure you have noticed when you go to a mall, or a supermarket, lots of parents with their kids.

Some kids just look at you like you are a martian, some look at you like and smile at you, some just make you smile and some you just want them to press the mute button on them because they just don't want to shut up and they keep crying and crying and crying.

Well, this weekend was no exception but one, sometimes I just want to "sit back" and look at the world go pass by me, look at the people, the children, it's fun!

This weekend, we were at a supermarket and there was this kid sitting on the cart making sounds like a lion, so Tania and me passed by and he went ROOAAARRR!! To us, Tania laughed but I followed his lead and made a scary face and sound, the kid just started laughing SO hard that his mom just turned around to see who was making him laugh so hard.

It's those small moments when makes me smile and feel so happy, knowing that I still have that kid inside me that loves those simple moments on this rushed thing we call life.

El Dia de los Muertos

In October 2005 I posted something about this day.... the post is here

It really is sad how traditions are dieing, those sugar skulls that you see there? It's hard to find them now, at least on this part of the country, some were hand made and really delicious, well yeah if yo don't count all the sugar that's in there! LOL

The bread is excellent every year, we buy a big one at Costco and they know how to make it, no, not everyone can make this kind of bread, it has to have a certain spice that only grows this time of year, "agua de azhar" extract from an orange flower I beleive, now don't get me wrong, Costco does not use this kind of ingredient (and if they do, they need to put more in it since you need to taste the orange, it's still delicious though!) but when you use this ingredient... mmmmm delicious! And with a cup of hot chocolate Mmmm okay I will stop now hehe

Last night I saw a lot of kids dressed up in different costumes, asking for candy, and I have always wandered, if they really know the meaning of that? Why they do that? Why the costumes? (No I don't either) I hope parents tell them why they do what they do it... but I will investigate later... for another message :)

Friendship, distance and time

Over my years on the internet and before (remember the BBS?) I have been so fortunate to have found such great friends.

Before the internet era (don't you dare make like a wolf now! I better not hear you! LOL) No, it was not that long ago, I found friends from Australia, Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Canada, Malaysia, Spain, Canary Islands, USA and so many other places. Sadly I've lost contact with some of them, some I keep in contact once in a while and some I contact them in a regular basis.

But, there are some that somehow, through destiny, we have found each other again, and it has been like we never stopped talking, like we just "saw" each other last night and we just continued where we left off.

THAT is what I call a good friendship, I can't say enough how lucky I have been to have found such great people over the internet, yes, I'm deeply sadden that I can always find good friends, and I mean REALLY good friends that no matter the distance have shown me that they are REALLY interested in my friendship, but they are so far away, that if I want to be in contact with one, I either have to have a computer or have to pay long distance to call them.

It's really amazing how technology can really make people meet and form a nice big nice friendship, of course, I realize not everything is roses and beautiful things, but, I've been so lucky and honored to have found such good friends that I cannot stress it enough.

So from here, to you, my dear friends who are reading this ... and you know who you are!! I send you a BIG hug a warm smile and a heartfelt "THANK YOU" for your friendship, for the wonderful times we have had and to many many more!

Viva Las Vegas!! (Random Pictures)

Here are some random pictures of the trip, some are self explanatory and some you can figure out where that is, and if you have some questions.. just ... mail me!!!

This pic of Spiderman is dedicated to my dear friend who loves Spidey!!

Viva Las Vegas!! (Tuesday)

On Tuesday we decided we could not walk too much (no kidding!) so we took the monorail to get us around the strip, we bought the tickets at the hotel and went to the last stop MGM, that hotel is very pretty, but we just found the exit and went to Luxor Hotel, we were going to stay there and Thank God we did not.. that one was one of the hotels I did not like... it's too dark, it's too somber, it was worse than being inside a museum, nop, I did not like it.

Then we took the free transportation to Excalibur, another hotel that I did not like it's pretty from the outside but from the inside.. puagh :P very plain and blah... nop, we then walked to the New York New York Hotel, meh.. I guess this was... okay, it's very pretty from the outside, but on the inside it's ... plain :P no, I didn't like that one either...

So we went outside, back to the MGM street and went.. where else?!? To the biggest M&M's store in the world!!! YUUMIII!! hehe :) four stories high of M&M's merchandise, a 3d movie and we had tons of fun!! That store is worth going !!!

Back to the MGM for some lunch, that was the most delicious food I've tasted in my whole vacation, the attention is excellent, the food is out of this world and the decoration is very beautiful, oh yes, I highly recommend to eat there!!! After an hour or so, we went to the venetian and the wax museum Madamme Tussaud, I had a blast at that museum, highly recomended for some fun, and some of creations really look sooo much alike! Look at the pictures and thell me if I'm lieing! After touring the Venetian and the museums, take the troley and go back to the hotel room, leave our bags, start packing for a bit, rest for a bit and then go out again to the other side of the strip, yes by monorail of course, it was interesting looking at the Sahara one of the oldest hotels there... and no, we didn't go to the Circus Circus.. it was TOO far and our feet were killing us *laughs*

Take the monorail again, back to Paris hotel to have dinner there, then walk to the Bellagios and stay there for an hour and a half, looking at the fountains show... if my feet would have allowed me to, I would have stayed more... but even my legs were killing me hehehe

We went to the hotel, packed, wake up very early next morning go down for breakfast, and off to the airport.

Yeah, it's sad that it ended... but I had a blast, everything came out perfect and I could not ask for anything else... really... I'll come back of course, and look at everything that we missed, because of course, there was A LOT we missed!!

Oh yes.. and an oxygen mask so I can tour the hotel and casinos without leaving with a bleeding nose and feeling dizzy and nauceous.... *deep sigh*

Would I do it again? FOR SURE! Will I go again? NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! But maybe we'll stay one extra day so we can rest in the morning and tour at night... so much fun!

Viva Las Vegas!! (Monday)

Well, in Vegas, I guess they don't know what a chair is without having a money eating machine in front of it... we walked all the way to Wynn's hotel, very very pretty, very expensive too!! If you see a map, you can see how far it was... we visited -by foot- all the hotels near by and got fumigated A LOT, because every time you go into a hotel, you get lost... they are HUGE, no chairs and maps are hidden so you cannot find them easily... of course, with the hotels you like you don't mind walking and watching and like me.. going ooooh! aaaaaaah!!! hehehehe We stayed on that side of the Strip the whole day, we wanted to see the Volcano at night at the Mirage, very pretty hotel, we had lunch there, delicious food, beautiful restaurant decoration, pretty amazing!!! At night and after the Volcano we walked back to the hotel (yes walked) so, after having dinner again at the Paris mall, comeback to the hotel and went to bed at around 12:30 am, exhausted and I had blisters on my feet, of course you will be the same way, if you were to walk all the way to Wynn's, stay there and comeback walking again... we were counting and we walked around 10 hours with only a two hour rest interval the whole time.... ouch... yeah...

At night though, we went to the Eiffel Tower, they have an elevator to go to the top, the view is SO breath taking!!! We could even watch one fountain show!! Ooh my! Elvis singing "Viva Las Vegas" and the fountains and the ROOOARRR and the BOOOMMM you hear from the HUGE fountains and the breath taking view, it was well worth waiting in line and being fumigated =yet again and all day= judge for yourself !!

Viva Las Vegas!!

I've been wanting to go to Vegas since my 25th. B'day and finally it came true, we left on Sunday Sept. 16th. and came back on Wednesday Sept. 20th. it was such an exciting trip that I have decided to post everything I remember, my experiences and thoughts, so, that I can tell you.. and you.. and you.. and even you, who asked me to tell you all about my trip!! Here it is :) I hope you are not bored with it!!

Saturday, we arrived at the airport three hours early, we had to leave early since we didn't know how long the line would be!!! Better early than sorry right??

Well after all the hastle at the airport, we finally got to Vegas, and what a surprise! Slot machines there!!! As I will call them now, money eating machine!!!! I don't like to gamble and I bet you are saying now "what on earth are you doing in Vegas if you don't like to gamble?" Well let me tell you, you CAN have a good time without giving your money to those machines with flashing lights....

We got to the hotel (Bally's) very nice, clean and quiet hotel and of course, once you come into the Lobby.. machines... and a heavy smell of cigarette smoke.. puagh! 19 out of 20 people in Vegas smoke... what a disgusting smell.

Anyway, the hotel is huge! So once we got into our room, I checked the view... nothing spectacular to see as you can see, but, ask me how many times I looked out the window?? Yep! Just once... so, the room was perfect!!!

This is a small view of our room

Sadly, the pillows were not comfortable... other than that... very very nice room.

After unloading and freshening up, we decided to go to The Bellagio and see if we can get tickets for Cirque du Soleil "O", we could not get them over the internet, so I read that there was a waiting list for each show, we got in line at 5:30 pm the show was at 7:30 pm, we were hoping to get tickets, since this was the show we wanted to see in Vegas, and that was the only show available for that day, they have Dark Monday and Tuesday, we stood in line for two hours, watching people earn money, loose all their money and sis and me... fumigated because the line for the theater was... where else? In the casino!

Our last meal was at 1:30 pm, 7:30 pm and they only thing I've eaten was a small pack of pretzels from the plane.... yeah, I was hungry, but could not leave the line!! At 7 pm the excitement started since a lady came to us and explained there was a 50/50 chance we got in, she showed up the seating chart, prices and because they needed to get the line move fast, (they were starting to sell tickets at 7:30) they showed you the chart, if you liked the seats take them if not, go back to the end of the line and hope there are other tickets... we were hoping to have a good view at least... well, we got the tenth row right in the middle, more prefect seats... no way... we were SOOOOOO excited we could not beleive it!!! We only missed the first 15 min. so it was not bad at all, the show it's SO much worth it, it's SO amazing!! We loved it, but we were also VERY hungry, at 9:30 pm the show ended and we were going to look for a place to eat.

Went back to Bally's and the cafe was closed (ouch) so we went to Paris Hotel which is connected to Bally's, the French atmosphere and the mall is beautiful, we went to a small "French" cafe, the sandwich was delicious!! And once rested and eaten, we went to walk around... very pretty, after a long long day, we went to bed after midnight... next day was going to be a marathon.

¡Que Viva Mexico!

September and December are my favorite months of the year, specially September, it's the month we celebrate Mexico's Independence, yes, you read right, it's not May 5th. like a lot of people think.

Every May 5th. lots of people tell me "HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!" And I say.. "thank you" but then I ask... do you know what we celebrate? And they said "Independence Day!" Now, if you are reading this and are one of those who told me that, I don't mean to be rude or make fun of you.. on the contrary, I just want to set the record straight.

On September 15th. we celebrate the start of our Independence, at the end of this message there is a great link of this date and May fifth. so you can see the difference.

On that day at night we get together infront of the TV and watch The President ring the same bell that was rang in 1810, listen to some mariachi and watch great fireworks!

I remember when I was living in Mexico City and I was little, when I started spotting the little stands in the corner selling flags I remember saying "My birthday is coming!" and loved to watch the fireworks on TV.

And it seems that in September everyone feels prouder to live in Mexico, what I love it's that for one day, on Sept. 15th. at night, everyone forgets their problems, and come together in the Zocalo in Mexico City, or on their own state, listen to Mariachi, eat mexican food, be happy be marry, and everyone at once scream ¡¡¡VIVA MEXICO!!!

I'm proud of my country, rich in culture, beautiful places and friendly people, so that's why I say it proudly. ¡¡QUE VIVA MEXICO!!

This is the page I found where it explains -close enough- our celebrations.

Comic Con 2007 Wednesday Pictures

Heroe's booth was one of the most crowded, and small! But it had the original paintings from the show, and on Saturday, on Hall H the whole cast was there.. woohooo! (yes I got pictures! I just need to fix them first)

Another beautiful booth was the promo for the movie The Golden Compass, very pretty, original props, later you'll see more pictures!

This was on top of another booth, it's big and it's amazing we could get a nice picture! With all the people around, this came out pretty decent.

This is You Know Who... and if you don't know You Know Who... then.. you are not a Harry Potter Fan.

This Transformer is bigger than me, very very impressive and I loved it, and I even loved more I could take a nice decent picture of it! Don't you think?

Comic Con 2007 Wednesday Pictures

Picture on the left, all made out of leggos, and C3PO spoke, very very well made and exciting, picture on the right.. I wanted to take it alone, but people kept coming in for pictures and I asked sis to take one with me, that way NOBODY will be on the way and I could have a picture! Nice huh?

Keep in mind that it was SO hard to take a picture without people bumping into you, and you trying NOT to move and take them fast before people got in the way of the picture, or bump you.... yeah, it is that hard.

Comic Con 2007 Wednesday

Finally the big day had arrived, the year's highlight, the most expected time of the year (well at least for me!) Comic Con! Oh yes! It's that time of year again where your feet disguise as indians and start sending "signals" (boom boom boom get it?) by the end of the day, or earlier, time of the year again when you don't sleep too much and party until your feet say no more. Yes.. heaven!!

Wednesday was preview night, doors open late, but we had to go and form a line earlier to get our badges, we met our friends Xenedra and Kalpatra for lunch over at Horton Plaza, I cannot say enough good comments about them, they are so sweet, nice, kind, funny... I feel so lucky and honored to have them as friends.

Anyway, we had lunch and we went to get our badges and wait in line to get in. As always, when one comes in, the adrenaline starts to pump up, looking at all the HUGE exhibits, lights, music, really a sight to see! Although every year it has been more crowded and crowded, it's amazing that this year was sold out! I'm glad we bought our tickets last year!!

We saw the schedule, who was going to be on the panels and what were we (sis and me) going to do and looking at all the events, we were only going to have time for shopping on Wednesday and Sunday, of course one has to shop early, so you get the good stuff first! Luckily we found everything we wanted (WOHOO!) and a bit more.. hehe (yeah, yeah, you know how it is, I'm just going to buy this... and then.. ooh look! I want this! And ... oooh! Just this! hehe) so we got all our shopping done on Wednesday, and we took some pictures.

Preview night it's from 6 to 9 pm so we were browsing and shopping and took some pictures! They are on the next post.

Star wars!

As most of you know, I'm love Star Wars and when I found out that there were these, I told my sister to keep an eye on them! So I can take a picture!! And, one Sunday she took me where these were (there are not a lot of them in here!) and, laughing I took the picture, I couldn't be in costume... I was blushing even then, but I had a lot of fun!

Opera

Yeah yeah, I know what you are thinking... what is this girl talking about now? She cannot like Opera! She is too much into her pop music!!!

Well, you are wrong! Actually I like classical music, some opera too, and nice relaxing music... makes me think if it's because I'm going to turn forty... but then again, I think of all the young composers and musicians and I just shake my head and say.. nah.. they are younger than me.

Why am I mentioning this? Because this week was very special, this week was a very cultural and oh so much fun week.

Tuesday we went to the Cultural Center here, where a chorus of musicians from Austria performed Carmina Burana from Carl Orff, I will be honest and tell you that I thought I was going to be bored, specially since there are some areas I am not too fond off, but, how wrong I was.. it's so impressive such an addrenaline rush listening to them, and live and... oh yes, very impressive, I had a wonderful time and I would go watch them again and again.

Saturday, we went to San Diego, The San Diego Opera is showing some operas at the movie theater, I think it's a wonderful oportunity for people like us who cannot attend the opera. On February we went to watch one from Placido Domingo, and to my point of view NOBODY can top Placido Domingo.. NOBODY. This last Saturday was specially exciting since they showed The Barber of Seville live from the Metropolitan Theater in New York, yep! Live Opera from New York! I find that very exciting, they showed backstage and live interviews, but most of all, it was so SO SO much fun and those voices were SO impressive!! SO beautiful that not even the audiance from NY were cheering but we were cheering too at the movie Theater!! It was so amazingly pretty, so awsome, that I still haven't been able to get over it yet.

One of these days I will have to go to New York and see one of these wonderful Operas.
